This group is a community of practice for publishing operations affiliated with institutions which are striving for open access, from small and medium-sized university presses to individuals based within university libraries working on scholarly journals. The association offers a new infrastructure to support non-commercial open access publishing within the UK and beyond, creating a forum to share advice, information, resources, training and best practice.
\n
As described on their website, OIPA focuses on five main principles:
\n
· Share experience, resources and “best practice” in open access publishing for books and journals
\n
· Foster support, collaboration and networking opportunities across the community
\n
· Build partnerships with key players in the wider open access and scholarly communications communities
\n
· Provide a collective voice for smaller institutionally-affiliated publishers and services in sector discussions about open access publishing
\n
· Advocate for the expertise and value of institutional open access publishing
\n
We strongly support OIPA’s statement on its About Us page: “The people behind our institutional publishing operations have a wealth of experience that is stronger when shared.
